Civilization without instrumentalities? That would be the Four Preps. They wrote the immortal Santa Catalina:

The Four Preps also appeared in Gidget and one of them wrote Cobb wrote the song "Tainted Love" for Gloria Jones, which became a worldwide hit for Soft Cell in 1982. (Source: Wikipedia).

Gottlieb's Shoe Repair

Everyone has been commenting about their favorite pinball machines. Captain Fantastic, Card Shark, Bathos and Pathos, and Spot 'Em!. My favorite, as you know, is Gottlieb's Shoe Repair.

Hello dere!

There were two popular surf music instrumentals in the late 60's. One was Wipe Out and later Pipeline. Gottlieb came out with a pinball machine called Wipe Out which was second only to their popular Shoe Repair. In the basement of the 70's architectural gem the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco was a barbershop. No one was ever in there and it looked like they did not encourage walk-ins. It was the kind of shop that movie stars flew in town to go to. They had a signed photo of Marty Allen on the wall.
