Gator Got Your Granny

Elvis That's the Way It Is is two-disc boxed set. The second disc features the original 1970 Denis Sanders version in featuring split-screen. Where else can you see, in Panavision, Elvis rehearsing as another part of the screen shows a dripping ham emerging from boiling grease? The jumpsuited King sings items like "Polk Salad Annie" and "This Time the Girl is Gonna Stay" as freakish asexual fans with thick horned-rim glasses right out of a Daniel Clowes comic book drool. It has elan worthy of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

In 2001 Ted Turner released a massacered version of the same including footage "found in the MGM vaults" meaning the cutting room floor (the movie on the first disc). All of Sander's brilliant direction and editing is destroyed. The freaks are gone. It is an insult. The same thing happened to the Guggenheim Museum. I keep thinking how Turner now owns the Wizard of Oz. We must rescue our beloved Judy from him.

Actually I think the song is "Polk Salad Annie" but I like the idea of a poke salad.

And again, in Tom Jones' version of that song, he even yells (what sounds like) "POKE!", then concludes in a lurid and prurient groan, "salad..."

You are all correct I shall change it to Poke. And according to Wikipedia it's Poke Sallet. The root is deadly unless you cook the hell out of it. I'll stick to alligator.
